Ambulatory BP monitoring

Ambulatory BP monitoring and variability is a critical factor in Hypertension management.

24 hours Ambulatory BP monitor is one tool which allows recording of BP and evaluates parameters such as mean BP, Variations between Daytime and night time and pulse pressure variability. These useful parameters are valuable for the clinical management of hypertension, as they increase the accuracy for diagnosis and prediction of CV risk .
Absolute indications of ABPM include identifying white coat or masked hypertension  and 24 hour abnormal BP patterns and also assessing the efficacy of antihypertensive treatment.
In this, a small device is applied as a cuff on the person’s arm, which records BP at frequent intervals, say 15 minutes, 30 minutes, or hourly as desired. It gives exhaustive recordings of BP at all timings throughout 24 hours.

The advantage of Ambulatory BP Monitoring is that it requires multiple readings throughout the day at all levels of activities- be it home, office or even during sleep.
